|PERSONALITY| Matt’s personality is much like his father’s; quick to laugh, slow to anger, and fiercely loyal to those he cares about. Though woe to anyone who actually does manage to truly anger him. This feat is easiest accomplished by threatening his family, but there are other triggers. Matt also inherited his father’s sense of humor and his hyperactivity. He always has to be doing something.
As the oldest of the siblings, Matt feels responsible for taking care of them, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t perfectly capable of getting into trouble himself should he decide it’ll be fun. While he’s calmed down a tiny bit and thinks things through a little more since becoming a married man, his actual energy levels, and mischievousness, haven’t decreased much. The fact that his wife is often a full partner in his ideas doesn’t help.
His fear of being crippled comes from the fact that he was born with a bad right knee, which already limits his ability to run. While he does have a knee brace that he can wear underneath his pants to help with this, it bugs the heck out of him, and he worries about something happening to make things worse. Matthew Tynan Kent was born a little after noon in a small country hospital in Kansas. He was, apart from what was later discovered to be missing cartilage in his right knee, perfectly healthy, almost right on time, and only five months after his parents’ wedding. He would eventually be followed by eight more, seven of them biological siblings and one adopted. Not that which was which has ever made a difference to him.
Matt’s been best friends with Abby for pretty much his entire life, and in love with her for almost that long. He finally realized how he felt toward the end of high school, but for reasons unknown to him she brushed off his confession as a joke, and it would take an incident during their freshman year of college to show just how serious he was. Matt, Abby, and Abby’s brother A.J. had been walking back to campus after celebrating the fact that finals were over when they were assaulted. During the ensuing fight Matt noticed that one of the males had a gun and instinctively moved to put himself between Abby and the weapon. A few seconds later a shot rang out. The bullet lodged itself in Matt’s shoulder rather than striking Abby, but the shock and pain threw him off-balance long enough for one of the other assailants to smash his right knee with a piece of lead pipe. Shortly afterward the fight ended with their opponents running off, either because they felt they’d inflicted enough damage or because, despite being out numbered and injured, the two boys absolutely refused to stop fighting.
Matt was taken to the hospital, where the bullet was removed and his knee was patched up as best as possible, since even with a werewolf's healing it's a little hard to do surgery on yourself when you have a bullet stuck in you shoulder blade and a completely destroyed knee. He started dating Abby, who now definitely believed him about being in love with her, before he was even discharged, and by the start of their sophomore year they were engaged.
When his little brother was attacked Matt finished out his senior year, then he and Abby packed up and followed his family out to San Francisco, where he eventually found a job with one of the local papers.

*chuckles* If you'll look, you'll see I never specified the race of the people who attacked them. Kind of a "insert Lore here" thing. Though I suppose I could've used "males" instead of "men" when talking about the guy with the gun. *shrugs*
As to the wheelchair...Well, it's your world, so if you say he wouldn't be in one for a month then he didn't need to be. No problem to change. I just figured as an injury where if he were human he'd have to go through physical therapy to walk properly again he'd need some recovery time even as a werewolf. Of course, I didn't know he'd end up as a Beta either, so I erred a little on the side of caution with that when I was writing it. Again, easy enough to change.
